One Timer Progression

This video provides a progression for developing a strong and accurate one-timer shot, focusing on technique, body positioning, and practice scenarios to help players improve their ability to execute one-timers during games.

Coaching Points:

  1. Basic Setup: Start with a slap shot technique, ensuring proper hand positioning, blade cupping, and focusing on hitting the puck between the feet.
  2. Contact Point: Emphasize making contact with the middle to heel part of the blade for optimal puck control and power.
  3. Weight Transfer: Players should transfer their weight from the back foot to the front foot while maintaining their hands away from the body.
  4. Progression: Start stationary, add soft passes, then gradually increase pass speed and difficulty, ensuring players can adjust to imperfect passes.
  5. Motion Practice: Once the technique is solid, add motion, either skating toward the net or receiving passes on the move to simulate game-like situations.
  6. Elevation: Work on elevating the puck, especially when the goalie is moving across the crease, to target the upper parts of the net.
