Using Your Skate to Pick Up Pucks

Get Full Access

The video demonstrates how players can effectively use their skates to receive and control pucks, which helps in situations where passes are off-target or in tight areas.

Coaching Points:

  • Body Positioning: Shift body weight to free up the receiving skate, allowing better control of the puck.
  • Using the Inside of the Skate: Position the inside edge of the skate to deflect the puck towards the stick or forward.
  • Maintain Balance: Keep a low centre of gravity and stay balanced while using the skate to absorb passes.
  • Transfer to Stick: Quickly and smoothly transfer the puck from skate to stick to maintain possession and create scoring opportunities.
  • Practice Both Feet: Train players to use both feet to pick up pucks, improving their versatility and skill level.
