This video explains a simple drill to help players improve their backhand shot accuracy and speed when close to the net.

Coaching Points:

  1. Set-Up: Place pucks around the top of the crease. For added difficulty, move the pucks closer to the net and add more pucks (start with five, then increase to seven or more).

  2. Shot Technique: Line up on your backhand side and focus on getting under the puck. Quickly lift the puck to the top part of the net, aiming just under the crossbar.

  3. Application: Practice this drill to get comfortable shooting high and fast in tight spaces, especially when handling rebounds or quick passes near the net. This skill will help avoid missed scoring opportunities by elevating the puck over goalies more effectively.
