Quick Tip: Forehand to Backhand Close to Net

Get Full Access

This video explains a quick drill to help players lift the puck from their forehand to backhand when close to the net.

Coaching Points:

  1. Hand and Blade Positioning: Start with your blade slightly curved on your forehand side. Pull the puck across to your backhand, keeping your blade curved again to control it. Open up the blade when you’re ready to lift the puck.

  2. Body and Stick Placement: Keep the puck close to your body or just outside your reach so you have better control and power. Avoid reaching too far forward with your stick.

  3. Quick Lift and Release: Focus on quickly lifting the puck up and over the goalie or defenders by pulling up with your bottom hand. The faster you can do this, the more effective you'll be in scoring around the net.

Practicing this drill will help you score more goals by avoiding shooting directly into the goalie or defenders when you’re in tight.
