Coaching Points:

  1. Hand Positioning: Ensure your hands are positioned in the shooting box, close to your body. Avoid having your stick too far from the puck when receiving a pass.

  2. Forehand Preparation: Keep your hands in a set position when receiving a pass, allowing you to quickly cradle the puck and release the shot.

  3. Backhand Preparation: When catching the puck on your backhand, work to move it back to your forehand to ensure a stronger shot. Keep the blade of your stick cupped to maintain control.

  4. Feet and Lower Body: Shoot off either foot depending on the situation. Players should be comfortable rotating and pushing with their legs for a quick release.

  5. Quick Transitions: From low-to-high or quick one-timers, maintain good hand positioning and be ready to catch and shoot without dropping your hands. This keeps the stick leverage optimal for a fast, effective shot.

  6. Focus on Accuracy: As you develop this skill, prioritize getting the puck into your shooting box as quickly and efficiently as possible for a stronger, faster release.
