This video explains how to perform a crossover start, emphasizing proper body positioning and technique for quick, efficient movement in a new direction after stopping.

Coaching Points:

Body Position: Ensure you're in a solid base with weight on the balls of your feet, maintaining a good hockey position.
Edge Control: At the stop, the inside foot should be on the outside edge, and the outside foot on the inside edge.
Crossover Execution: Lead with the toe during the crossover, push off the outside edge, and ensure the heel pops up as you open your toe.
Head and Shoulder Turn: Turn your head and shoulders first before pushing off, to ensure proper direction and body control.
Avoid Bad Habits: Don’t pop up during the crossover start; instead, focus on coming out forward. Keep your head and shoulders leading, and avoid small steps by pushing off fully with each foot.
