Get Full Access

This video covers the importance of using the backhand side of the stick blade effectively for puck handling, passing, and shooting.

Coaching Points:

  1. Hand Positioning: Keep the top hand up and the bottom hand in a strong position to maintain control while using the backhand.
  2. Blade Cupping: Make sure the blade is slightly cupped to control the puck better when receiving or making passes on the backhand side.
  3. Push and Pull Motion: Use a push and pull motion with the bottom hand when passing or shooting with the backhand to generate power and accuracy.
  4. Body Position: Keep the body square and balanced to ensure better stability and maneuverability when handling the puck on the backhand.
  5. Practice Consistently: Encourage players to practice using their backhand regularly, as it is often less developed compared to the forehand and requires additional focus to improve effectiveness.
